My 4th YouTube video is up, and once again, it’s based on one of my Substack articles. This time it’s about the late, great musician Prince and what he meant to me.
I reviewed my articles not long ago and decided which ones were suitable for video adaptation. As you can imagine, that list wasn’t especially long. I’ll need to figure out my video strategy before too long. What sort of topics should I cover? Should I pursue the same “collage” formula I’ve been following? Should I begin appearing in the vids myself?
Time will tell.
While I’ve got you here, let me remind you I have two books out now—and they’re wildly different. Read the descriptions below and click the covers if you’re interested.
As always, thank you for your kind attention.
Spanning from the golden age of animation to the dawning of the 21st century, San Fernando is an intimate story of ambition, art, and the long shadows of personal history.
It begins with Rollie Prader, a talented animator swept up in the promise and politics of the Walt Disney Studios in the 1940s. It continues with Jacob Blockman, a sharp-witted teen navigating love, grief, and identity in suburban California during the 1980s. It culminates with Walton Krebs, a slick and self-destructive comic strip creator whose family ties mask deeper wounds.
What begins as a chronicle of creative ambition and postwar America unfurls into something richer—a story of legacy, secrets, and the invisible threads connecting generations. As their paths intersect in unexpected ways, Rollie, Jacob, and Walton must each confront what it means to belong—whether to a family, a country, or an era that no longer exists.
At once bitingly funny and deeply humane, San Fernando captures the quiet epic of ordinary lives shaped by extraordinary times. A sweeping yet intimate novel for readers who loved Kavalier & Clay, The Fortress of Solitude, or Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
When the happiest place on Earth becomes a living nightmare, only two unlikely heroes stand between a city’s salvation and unspeakable doom. One slings churros. The other sweeps the streets. Together, they’re about to dive deep into a surreal underworld of ancient horrors, forgotten conspiracies, and theme park secrets best left buried.
Equal parts hilarious and horrifying, Bad Day at D-land is a madcap thrill ride that fuses Lovecraftian dread with deadpan humor and a buddy-comedy heart. Perfect for fans of genre mashups, cosmic absurdity, and apocalyptic weirdness with a churro-scented twist.
